Our team




Here at The Avenues Medical Centre we have a dedicated team of clinicians and administrative staff to assist you in all areas of the Practice.  Our staff members roles and duties are summarised below and all our staff are here to give you help in complete confidence.

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. The average pay for GPs working at Avenues Medical Centre in the last financial year was £63,696 before tax and national insurance. This is for 2 full time and 2 part time GP’s who worked in the practice for more than six months.”


Practice Manager


Mrs Caroline Whitaker is our Business Manager.  She is responsible for the day to day running of the Practice.  She is available Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays to answer any queries you may have.


Nursing Team


We have two Practice Nurses, Mrs Susan Hartley and Mrs Jennifer Dunham.  They are available by appointment and their duties routinely include:

  • Blood pressure reviews
  • Health check and advice
  • Dressings, stitch removal and ear syringing
  • Family planning and sexual health advice (including smear tests)
  • Travel injections and advice
  • Child immunisations
  • Blood taking for tests

They also run specialist clinics for the following:

  • Diabetes
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Smoking Cessation Advice
  • Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease

Healthcare Assistants

We have one Healthcare Assistants Mrs Sally Hone. Who is availble by appointment and her duties routinely include:

  • Blood taking for tests
  • ECG's
  • New patient health checks
  • Blood pressure reviews

We also have a phlebotomist Jackie Drinkall, who can also take blood.

Other Staff


We have two Secretaries, five administration staff and seven Receptionists.  Our Reception Team aim to help you get the most out of the services offered at the Practice.


Attached Staff


We work closely with a number of community staff who may see you at home, in the surgery or clinic.  These include Health Visitors, District Nurses and Midwives.  We also have in-house staff that provide services for our patients such as a Dietician, Counsellor and Mental Health Workers.
